When purchasing a mobility van for transporting handicapped passengers, many factors should be considered. These factors include space for wheelchairs, seating for other passengers, and ease of use when it comes to ramps and lifts. One especially important factor is fuel efficiency.

And there are mobility vans that can even help reduce fuel costs. Two notable examples are the Toyota Sienna and Dodge Grand Caravan.

Toyota Sienna

The Toyota Sienna can achieve up to 18 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles on the highway, or a combined 20 miles. You can increase this by going for a front wheel drive model, which will give you 19 in the city, 27 on the highway, and 22 combined.

The Sienna’s engine is powerful too. The 2019 model comes equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. You can reach up to 296 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque.

Other useful features of the Sienna include:

  • All-wheel drive as an optional feature
  • Standard entertainment system featuring Amazon Alexa and Apple CarPlay
  • Power-sliding rear doors
  • Seven-inch touchscreen with Scout GPS Link
  • Sport-tuned suspension
  • LED daytime running lights
  • Fog lights
  • Power liftgate
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Backup camera
  • Seating for eight passengers

Dodge Grand Caravan

The Dodge Grand Caravan can achieve up to 16 miles in the city and 25 on the highway. Though this is nowhere near the Toyota Sienna’s front wheel drive version, it is right up to speed with competitors. It also has a fuel economizer feature, which adjusts engine timing and transmission shifts to improve fuel economy.

The Grand Caravan’s engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. It can reach up to 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. These numbers are not that far off from the Toyota Sienna.

  • All-speed traction control

  • Stow ‘n Go Seating
  • LED lighting
  • 5-inch touchscreen with Garmin Navigation
  • Uconnect Voice Command
  • Parkview rear backup camera

The Toyota Sienna and Dodge Grand Caravan mobility van can increase its benefits several times over. These conversions are capable of transporting up to seven passengers, including the driver and one wheelchair passenger.

These conversions include a sturdy, safe, and easy-to-use wheelchair ramp, as well as non-slip flooring, and wheelchair restraints. The grade of the ramp and hatch height exceed ADA requirements. Toyota Sienna and Dodge Grand Caravan mobility vans will allow you to transport handicapped passengers with dependable ease and safety.
